THE MOMENT a mighty 220 pound jaguar took down a crocodile has been captured by an astonished passerby. Thrilling action shots by local Luiz Claudio show the Brazillian jaguar drinking at the waters edge before slinking stealthily across and attacking the smaller predator and seemingly dragging it off to eat. The jaguar is largely a solitary, opportunistic, stalk-and-ambush apex predator and certainly proved it on this occasion. The powerful big cat wrestled with the juvenile croc in the water before taking control and biting the back of the crocodiles head until it delivered the fatal blow.
